Honey child, aren’t you ephemeral, a popsicle melting right down to my ankles/ are we standing over a wobbling empire each morning we open our eyes/ I better not blink twice when you say something sweet/ your promises have a tendency of floating into space and flying away, up and out of the street, when I hold you and you try your best to hold me/ but there is a place where our love goes, even after it's gone when we've both walked home/ and it camps in the trees and sings down like a bird, it's that song in our heads wherever we go/ I’m trying my hardest not to imagine happiness as a bouquet of balloons floating over your head/ do I reach out my hand or do I just wait for you to disappear into blue like you do/ I want a love that lasts longer than the length of the telephone wire to the neighborhood over/ come on over, stay awhile, let’s get older together/ and I know someday my hair will grow down to my toes/ and we'll measure time by the cracks on the wall/ and I will live wide like a field of snow/ and love will not fly over me like a bird, it’ll see me, and it will make a home

Off we go into the minefield today/ panning for love but instead, together we give birth to a blackhole, a war zone, a robot, an outcast/ romance is a surgeon’s blade, no matter your intentions/ hold your tongue, you are no prophet/ your hand is a scalpel, and I am the patient/ roll away, like a fortune back to your teller, back to your mouth that God made/ love made my body a church of shame, and I’ve forgotten how to pray
